After living in New York City for three years, founder Dante Beatrice Pauwels observed that women were walking around like pack mules with a chic designer handbag in one hand, a satellite bag stuffed with gym clothes, and often yet another carrying a fluffy pup, or office papers. Well, thought Dante, if we’re sherpas, we may as well be chic sherpas. The inspiration for Dante Beatrix was born and the company launched in 2003. The house style is practical, exquisitely made, and timelessly chic. They’re bags that look nice with designer bags, bags that look nice with just about anything you’re wearing, bags that let you get on with your busy day. The brand can be found in over a hundred retail outlets around the world. The signature halo and horns logo is a wink to poet Dante Alighieri whowrote about heaven, hell, and everything in-between. Dante has a master’s degree in product design from Stanford University. She has created best-selling products for Martha Stewart and has work in the permanent collection of the San Francisco MOMA. Animix, a stuffed animal construction toy she created, is produced through Rich Frog. Dante lives happily in New York City.
